Around 200 Confirmed Monkeypox Cases Reported Worldwide

INTERNATIONAL:  Around 200 confirmed MonkeyPox cases and over 100 suspected cases had been reported around the world, said the World Health Organization said on Thursday.

The Italian Ministry of Health said in a bulletin on Thursday that the number of confirmed MonkeyPox cases in the country reached six. It said that the risk of an epidemic of MonkeyPox has been ruled out, and vaccination will be administered to vulnerable groups only, but mass inoculation temporarily will not be taken into consideration.

The UK Health and Safety Authority said on Thursday that the number of confirmed Monkeypox cases reached 90 in the country - 85 in England, three in Scotland and one each in Wales and Northern Ireland.

The public health department of France said on Thursday that the number of confirmed MonkeyPox reached seven in the country.

Spain on Thursday reported 25 new confirmed monkeypox cases, bringing the total to 84. Besides, the country has 73 suspected cases. Health Minister Carolina Darias said on Wednesday that the Monkeypox cases in Spain were infected with the West African clade, with a fatality rate of one percent.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Thursday that nine MonkeyPox cases had been reported in seven states, including California, Florida and Massachusetts, by this week.

Quebec of Canada on Thursday reported 10 confirmed Monkeypox cases, bringing the total to 25 in the province. Besides, the province has 20 to 30 suspected cases. Local health officials said the vaccination of confirmed and suspected MonkeyPox cases may start as early as Friday.

On Thursday, the first Monkeypox case was confirmed in Toronto, bringing the total number of the disease to 26 in Canada.
